Dear Friends,

As we contemplate the events of our time, let us remember two core truths.

(1) The core truth that there is no view of this world that makes any sense of it other than that there is a purposeful Creator, whom we call God, who has an intention for it and a design for it, and who will in spite of all our many and indeed ridiculous blunderings bring His intention and design to fruition.

(2) The core truth that He has already revealed Himself and His intention in the Person, words and works of the Historical Person whom we acknowledge as the Lord Jesus Christ, and who desires to connect with us still by His Holy Spirit.

The Collect for the Seventh Sunday after Trinity is

Lord of all power and might, who art the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of thy name, increase in us true religion, nourish us with all goodness, and of thy great mercy keep us in the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The love of thy name” grafted in our hearts, … the increase in us of “true religion”, … being nourished with “all goodness”….  These are the samples of the “good things” that the composer of this prayer refers to, as well as by the Lord’s great mercy our being kept in these wonderful conditions. Yes we can concentrate our minds with such a prayer, in spite of all the world’s craziness, including the crazy parade that has been sorely afflicted upon the Islands this weekend (for the second time) by unwise authorities, to the delight of some who are foolish and do not see ahead.

We thank the Lord that in spite of the distraction of all the things that are evil and foolish and not from Him, He provides, for those ready to receive them by such spiritual grafting, increase and nourishment, those things that secure His people in the mind of Christ. Let us confidently receive His wonderful provisions.

In faith in the holy Name of our Lord Jesus, who will continue to provide guidance and joy by the Holy Spirit to all His people.
