Dear Friends,

Thinking again on our last week’s letter’s introductory theme, I want to propose that although the onslaught of the current war of manipulation against truth may seem to have come upon us suddenly, in actuality it has long and deep roots from past years. I will not be attempting to describe them here in any detail, indeed one is not qualified to do so without extended study in several areas. I do think it is likely that younger generations than mine of our time may not be aware of how very extensive the manipulation has been, in terms both of spread over different specialities of discourse and of how far back in the past these manipulative roots have found sufficient room and soil of mental acceptance. Two broad areas that are called “sciences” - the social sciences and the physical sciences - come to mind. What, even in the physical sciences, it may be asked? - because the physical sciences are regularly thought of as the “exact sciences”.

Yes, even in the “exact sciences”, I claim - a claim that should not be unbelievable just now when the current “standard model” of the universe is being greatly challenged by the observations of seemingly impossibly faraway galaxies from the newly commissioned and remarkable James Webb Space Telescope.

The signs are, though, that even this challenge may be fluffed and attempts made to invent a further new set of fictional extensions of the "standard model" to try to cover the challenging observations. After all, if we can successfully invent “dark matter” we can fix just about anything...

And that applies as well to the sciences that do not even bear the claim to be “exact”.

The Collect for the Nineteenth Sunday after Trinity is

O God, forasmuch as without thee we are not able to please thee; Mercifully grant, that thy Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The prayer begins from the position “forasmuch as without thee we are not able to please thee”. This is the most important position to accept in all that we think, say or do, not least in the midst of the war of manipulation against truth.  It gives the space needed for the petition to take effect within us: “Mercifully grant, that thy Holy Spirit may in all things direct and rule our hearts; through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

We look forward to the arrival of Bishop Melvin and Mrs Ela Williams on Monday (the 24th inst.) and pray for their safe and successful travel.

For directions about the services this Sunday the 23rd October 2022, the 19th Sunday after Trinity, please see the website www.TruthWithLanguage.com .

In faith in the holy Name of our Lord Jesus, who will continue to provide guidance and joy by the Holy Spirit to all His people.
