Dear Friends,

Thank you so very much for all the kind thoughts expressed with regard to the covid infections that my wife and I have experienced, They have been relatively light. The most annoying thing perhaps has been the retention up until now (Thursday) of positive test results. Katie also tested positive for some days but is free now.

We are very happy that Peter has been testing negative for several days, and is able to take over the leading of the service on Sunday at the National Trust Clubhouse. This will be Morning Prayer at 10.00 a.m. He will let us know about anything needed in advance.

The Collect for the Fourth Sunday after Trinity is

God, the protector of all that trust in thee, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us thy mercy; that, thou being our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we finally lose not the things eternal: Grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ's sake our Lord. Amen.

It is so true that in a time of weakness we can rely on a “protector” that overcomes everything that is not “strong" and everything that is not "holy”. We are indeed grateful for all the support we have benefited from in a time of covid. The main affirmation of this prayer, however, is the strength afforded by the divine Protector, and we pray that such “mercy” may be increased and multiplied in order that under such rulership and guidance our passage through “things temporal” may ultimately secure for us the “things eternal”. We are perhaps reminded of St. Paul’s statements about God’s grace being made more evident in our times of bodily frailty. For such we may pray the heavenly Father for ourselves during our times of weakness, “for Jesus Christ’s sake our Lord. Amen.”
