Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It was good this morning to have seen blue skies after some days of cloud and Saharan dust. The weather people have told us before that the Saharan dust has had a part to play in pushing stormy weather away from us. I really don’t know if this has been the case recently, but the idea that a dust cloud can divert stormy weather from a location seems interesting and perhaps even worth looking into for an alleviation of some types of severe weather. On the other hand … humankind being what we are, such a capacity might also be used for nefarious purposes.

Anyway, it seems hard to believe that for us in the northern hemisphere the days are beginning to shorten again. Even so, we continue here to be in the summer storm season and we should be stocking up somewhat for the historically predictably worst of it later on; at the same time being aware that world conditions do not look good for the stability of either the supply of foods or their costs.

Whatever difficulties may lie ahead in so many ways we can be sure of a wise and merciful Providence, and not take too much stock of any personal “collywobbles” in our looking ahead in faith.  Let us continue also to look forward to and work for further alleviations of whatever covid regulations continue to do to restrict our lives and familial relationships.

The Collect for the 2nd Sunday after Trinity is

O Lord, who never failest to help and govern them who thou dost bring up in thy stedfast fear and love: Keep us, we beseech thee, under the protection of thy good providence, and make us to have a perpetual fear and love of thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Here too we pray to be kept “under the protection of thy good providence”. We have affirmed also that the Lord never fails “to help and govern them who thou dost bring up in thy stedfast fear and love”. Indeed we are to be thankful for that heavenly upbringing, which we pray may be available not only to us but to our descendants. We pray therefore that we may be made “to have a perpetual fear and love of thy holy Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Amen.
